UPSON JURY SPLIT 9-3 IN FAVOR OF DEATH PENALTY

AFTER DELIBRATING 30 MINUTES WEDNESDAY AN UPSON COUNTY JURY SENTENCED CHRISTOPHER CALMER TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE FOR THE MURDER OF DEPUTY MICHAEL NORRIS—THE UPSON JURY WAS REPORTEDLY SPLIT 9 TO 3 IN FAVOR OF THE DEATH PENALTY.

THE FATHER OF DEPUTY NORRIS---BENNETT NORRIS TOLD THE TELEGRAPH HE BELIEVES THE JURY WOULD HAVE REACHED A DIFFERENT VERDICT—IF THEY COULD HAVE HEARD THE FAMILY SAY THEY WANTED THE DEATH PENALTY.

THE LAW DOES NOT ALLOW SUCH TESTIMONY DURING THE SENTENCING PHASE OF A DEATH PENALTY CASE.
